About Lil Bebe Academy

I am a wife and mother to two beautiful children. Since 2008 I have been providing childcare and have tapped into a very rewarding field. My joy has been the ability to watch the metamorphosis of little gems I call butterflies. Browse the website and see why I love my job ~~*

Garbage Day

Standard

We have been studying about Renew, Recycle and Re-use. Fittingly our garbage day is on Wednesdays and the children anxiously awaited the garbage truck to see how it disposes of our garbage.
Some of the words they learned this week are: dump, landfill, dispose and incinerator.

It was worth the wait!

Turnips Children Planted

Turnips Children Planted

Fifth week of turnip growth. The weather is still iffy- so we will keep indoors until all signs of winter is really gone. The weather says snow is in our forecast …sigh!

Here the children all participated in planting seeds using recycled baby food jars.

This is the 2nd-3rd week growth

The window sill provide enough sunlight for their growth. In the picture you see some Morning Glory that I planted myself that week.

Fifth week and they are looking good.

Power Food to Boost my Busy Day

Standard

Running a daycare can be exhausting at times.  I try to energize with daily salads. Here is a simple and easy recipe I make often. I found it in the BHG magazine about 2 Thanksgivings ago.

This is what it calls for (Sara Foster):

Zest and juice of 1 orange
Zest and juice of 1 lime
2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper
1 pound beets, peeled and cut in matchsticks*
2 large carrots, peeled and cut in matchsticks*
1 Granny Smith apple, cored, peeled and cut in matchsticks*
1 turnip, peeled and cut in matchsticks*
1 bunch flat-leaf parsley, stems removed

1.  In a large bowl, combine the orange zest and juice, lime zest and juice, and vinegar. Slowly whisk in the olive oil, then season with salt and pepper to taste.

2.  In the same bowl, layer beets, carrots, apple, and turnip. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Toss salad right before serving, then top with parsley leaves.

*To cut matchsticks, use a mandolin or a food processor that has either a julienne blade or large shredding blade.

You can also get the recipe  here.  BHG got it from Foster’s Market here

It is so yummy! I told my sisters about it and the love it!

It is a perfectly delicious salad for anyone who loves beets.  It is sweet with all the flavors – and you will not taste the turnip.  Try it and let me know.

The Lorax and other books

Standard

The children enjoyed our once per week Movie Day with, ‘The Lorax’

We got the book from Downers Grove Library to read during our April theme of Renew, Recycle, Reuse.

Some of the other books we are reading this month:
Joseph Had a Little Overcoat
The Great Kapok Tree
Where Does the Garbage Go?

We would love to hear any other book suggestions.
