Painting with Balls

This project was done in early Spring 2014.  The long winter had us creating many art works.  The children were given some paint on paper in a basket, and then a ball to shake in the basket.

He was very intrigued by the change in colors.

We repeated each step for all the children.

She was very happy with what she saw. Each child produced a different art work.

These paintings had to lay flat to dry.  I did this to prevent the paint from running because it was still wet (watery).  The children were happy with their work of art – so was I.

This project encourage the children’s creativity because the shaking of the balls in a particular motion yielded different patterns and colors. They utilized their problem solving skills to figure the patterns and blended colors. Their fine motor skills were also utilized when they held the basket. Fun Fun Fun 🙂

 

 

 

 

Earth Day 2013

The weather has been so good over the weekend and on Monday that the children did not want to sit still for circle time nor did they want to do a project. They wanted to play in the backyard.

So in observance of earth day I quickly made a little maracas for the babies to enjoy and engage in their sensory.

Tomorrow we will go planting seeds with the preschoolers:)

Use 3 empty plastic water bottles.

I gave it to my toddler to test. If it pass inspection with him trust me it is safe for babies. Well quality control revealed it needed masking tape not the cellophane tape. So here I wrapped with gray masking tape

Moon Swirl Art

Children making art to represent the swirls on the moon.  This art work was done during our March theme which was based on nursery rhymes. Our nursery rhyme for that week was, ‘The Cow Jumped Over The Moon.’  It is during this week that we explained the phases of the moon which had the kids singing a song from you tube which we found here.

Materials needed

Blue & white paint, straw and card stock or construction paper

Children were then asked to blow in straw to create patterns = moon swirls.

Clothespin – Helps Fine Motor Development

Toddlers and preschoolers alike are often independent in nature wanting to accomplish many tasks with little or no help.  In our daycare we allow children to explore, discover and learn about their environment in many ways.

Here we have a toddler learning how to pin the clothespin.  You may ask why?  The clothespin is helping her learn skills that will further enhance zipping, buttoning,  and other activities for managing her body.  It also teaches her to become gradually sufficient with drawing, painting and writing skills.

She is using both hands to help open the pin.  With continued practice she will be able to do this with one hand.

Fine motor skills help young children to string beads, tie shoe laces, put together puzzles, cut and paste and build creative arts.
